FAQs - Getting started

What is reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise performed on a specialist machine called a reformer. Using springs and controlled resistance, it helps improve strength, posture, flexibility, balance, and core stability.

Is Reformer Pilates suitable for beginners?

Yes. Our classes are designed to support all fitness levels, including complete beginners. We offer specific beginner classes and recommend completing 3 of these prior to attending all levels or advanced sessions. Instructors provide guidance and modifications throughout each session.

Do I need any previous Pilates experience?

No previous experience is needed. Beginners are always welcome, and our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals. We host regular beginner courses for those wanting to deep dive into Pilates before attending classes.

What should I bring to my first class?

Simply yourself, grip socks and a bottle of water is advised. Grip socks are essential for class for hygiene and health and safety reasons. If you attend without, you will be asked to purchase a pair in the studio before taking part in class. We also sell water and other drinks if required.

What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable activewear that allows you to move freely. Grip socks are essential for hygiene and health and safety. We recommend avoiding all overly loose or tight fitted clothing that may hinder your ability to move.

How early should I arrive?

We ask all participants to arrive 5 minutes before class. For newcomers we recommend 10 minutes before so we can familiarise you with he reformer bed, check for any injuries and have a good gab to calm any nerves and answer any questions.

What happens during my first session?

Your instructor will guide you through the reformer setup, explain the equipment, and support you throughout the class with clear demonstrations and modifications where needed.

How many people are in each class?

For a personalised and tailored experience, our reformer classes have a maximum capacity of 6 people. This is intentional to give you the time and attention we feel you deserve during your classes.

Is reformer Pilates suitable for all ages?

In our studio we have a minimum age of 16 for our classes. However, we host teen classes suitable for 13-19 year olds, this is a more tailored experience for teenage bodies that are still growing, adapting and learning how to move during specific exercise. Anyone under 18 years old requires consent from a parent/guardian as well as a wavier.

How often should I attend?

This is totally up to you! We always advise to start slow, feel it out and see what works for you. Once you become more familiar, we advise 2-3 classes per week on average. This is the perfect amount to see and feel change in a short space of time without feeling like you're overdoing it. For more advanced clients or those who focus on Pilates are their sole form of exercise 4-5 classes per week may feel better for you.

Can I do Reformer Pilates if I’ve never exercised before?

Yes. Reformer Pilates is beginner-friendly and focuses on controlled, low-impact movement, making it a great place to start your fitness journey. We adjust the intensity, speed and resistance for your body and we never ask for more than you feel capable of.

Can I come with an injury or disability?

In many cases, yes. Reformer Pilates can often be adapted to support different injuries, mobility levels, and physical needs. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss your individual requirements and help recommend the most suitable class or session for you. If you are recovering from an injury or under medical care, we may recommend seeking advice from your healthcare professional beforehand. We require all participants to read and sign a wavier which includes a section asking about injuries/disabilities.

Can I come if I'm pregnant?

Yes, depending on your pregnancy stage, experience level, and how you feel. We run regular prenatal Reformer Pilates courses, which can be found in our Courses tab and this may feel more suitable for you.

If you’re unsure, please contact us before booking so we can guide you to the most suitable option, and we always recommend checking with your midwife or healthcare professional first.

Can men do Pilates?

Yes of course they can! Reformer Pilates is for everyone, including men of all ages and fitness levels. It’s a great way to improve strength, flexibility, posture, and core stability, and is widely used by athletes and sports professionals as part of their training.
